ΓrΓ - The Yoruba Concept of a Person's head
OrΓΒ literally meaning "head," refers to one's spiritual intuition which is the calabash that contains the head and heart. It is the reflective spark of human consciousness embedded into the human essence, and therefore is often personified as an ΓrΓsÑ in its own right. It is believed that human beings are able to heal themselves both spiritually and physically by working with the ΓrΓsÑ to achieve a balanced character or IwΓ‘-pΓ¨lΓ¨. When one has a good balanced character, one obtains an alignment with one's OrΓ or divine self. It is also believed that OrΓ is to be worshiped like ΓrΓsΓ‘.
The Yoruba believe that OrΓ embraces both knowledge and wisdom, and because it is a manifestation of both thought and emotion, a better definition would be either the human soul, or the human spirit.
